Policies paid by card

If you are an existing customer and paid your premium in full by a debit or credit card, your renewal procedure will be dependent on whether or not you opted out of giving us Continuous Payment Authority or CPA.

What is Continuous Payment Authority (CPA) and its benefits?
Continuous Payment Authorities allow us to automatically collect renewal payments from your recently provided debit or credit card, offering you peace of mind that there will be no break in cover.

The DVLA and the police can easily detect if your vehicle is uninsured. As part of the Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE), it is now a legal requirement for registered vehicle keepers to insure their vehicle at all times. CPA can therefore protect you from penalties where you find yourself unintentionally uninsured. For example, you go on holiday and forget to renew your policy.

The penalties under CIE can include:

  • A fixed penalty notice of £100
  • Your vehicle being clamped, seized and disposed of
  • A court prosecution with a maximum fine of £1,000

CPA also simplifies the payment process for any policy additions you make during its term such as purchasing an Optional Extra e.g. Breakdown Assistance Cover. It can also be used to pay for changes that you make to your policy mid-term plus any fees or charges due. Of course, we won’t take any money without informing yourself or the cardholder beforehand.

Renewal of policies paid for by card with CPA:

When can I expect my new renewal invitation?
We will upload your new renewal documents, along with your policy booklet and summary, onto your online account approximately 21 days before your renewal date. We will also send you a copy of your renewal documentation with details of your new premium.

How do I view my documents and new Certificate of Motor Insurance?
To view your documentation, log onto your online account using your Username and password through the ‘manage your policy online’ button. Please note that you may only view your new Certificate of Motor Insurance once your policy has been renewed either on or after your policy start date.

What do I need to do to renew my policy?
All you need to do is make sure that your details are accurate, that we are aware of any changes in your circumstances such as claims or convictions occurred in the last year and that your cover is still suitable and adequate for your needs. Any errors on the policy may affect your cover or lead to you being uninsured. Please also double check your contact details such as your mobile number and email address.

If all of your information is correct then you do not need to do anything and your policy will automatically renew. As you previously agreed to give us Continuous Payment Authority we will apply for your renewal premium 3 days before your renewal date (not working days).

If your details have changed, please contact our Customer Service team on 0345 604 3683 as soon as possible.

What if I do not wish to renew my policy?
As you have opted in for Continuous Payment Authority we will apply for full payment 3 days before your renewal date. Therefore it is vital you contact our Customer Service team on 0345 604 3683 before this date in order to stop any payment being taken.

What if I have been issued with a new card?
We'll write to you 21 days before your renewal to remind you to provide updated card details.

What if I have cancelled my card or want the payment to be taken from a different card?
Please contact our Customer Service team on 0345 604 3683 before your renewal date.

What if my card payment declines?
If your card declines then your policy will lapse. It is therefore vital you supply us with a valid card with sufficient funds in order to continue cover after your renewal.
